In June–July 2012 he took the name Ichikawa Chūsha IX at the Shinbashi Enbujō — as Chōbei in Ogurusu no Chōbei and Yamaoka Tetsutarō in Shōgun Edo o Saru — and made his kabuki debut in the same production, in which his eldest son also debuted as Ichikawa Danko V (Kabuki Actor Directory).
