NAKAMURA KAROKU — MYŌSEKI
Nakamura Karoku
Nakamura Karoku is a hereditary name of the Harimaya house. The Kabuki Encyclopedia records that Karoku I was a pupil of Nakamura Utaemon III, and Kabuki-bito quotes Nakamura Kichiemon as saying that Karoku I was the founder of Harimaya. The current holder, the fifth, took the name at the Kabukiza in June 1981.
According to Kabuki-bito, at the Shūzan-sai September Grand Kabuki at the Shinbashi Enbujō in September 2010, the house name of Karoku, Kashō (now Matagorō) and others changed from Yorozuya to Harimaya. The Kabuki Actor Directory gives his crest as ageha-chō, tsuru-katabami and karoku-ume.
