NAKAMURA KICHIEMON — MYŌSEKI
Nakamura Kichiemon
Nakamura Kichiemon is the principal hereditary name of the Harimaya house. The first holder, son of Nakamura Karoku III, was a leading actor of the Taishō and Shōwa eras who excelled especially in jidaimono; the Shūzan Jisshu, named after his haiku name Shūzan, is the house art. The present status of the name is not stated in the sources gathered, so this site does not assert it.
The Kabuki Encyclopedia records that the first holder's younger brother was Nakamura Tokizō III. The Kabuki Play Guide notes that the Shūzan Jisshu, though called 'ten', comprises only six fixed plays.
