Photos and footage will be added as rights are cleared.
A kabuki actor who carries Ichikawa Ennosuke, the principal name of the Omodakaya house, having taken the fourth generation of it in 2012. The house's arts are the Omodaka Jisshu and the En'ō Jisshu.
According to the Kabuki Actor Directory, he was born on 26 November 1975, the eldest son of Ichikawa Danshirō. He first appeared in July 1980 at the Kabukiza as the Emperor Antoku in Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura, and made his stage debut in July 1983 as the kamuro Tayori in Omemie Taikōki, under the name Ichikawa Kamejirō II.
He was promoted to nadai in July 1998, and in June–July 2012 took the name Ichikawa Ennosuke IV at the Shinbashi Enbujō, as Tadanobu — in truth the fox Genkurō — in the Kawatsura Hōgen mansion scene of Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura, and as Yamato Takeru. In 2005 he received collective recognition as a holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property (Kabuki Actor Directory).
What They Inherit
His succession production paired the classical fox Tadanobu with Yamato Takeru, the Super Kabuki created by Ennosuke III — the two faces of this house set side by side in one run.
