The Kabuki Encyclopedia's entry on the Nakamura house (Kanzaburō line) describes it as the family of the proprietors of the Nakamura-za, one of the officially licensed playhouses of Edo. Those proprietors took the name Nakamura Kanzaburō from generation to generation; some, the Encyclopedia notes, were also actors, and from Kanzaburō XVII, active in the Shōwa era, the family has been actors by profession.
According to the Kabuki Actor Directory, Nakamura Kankurō VI took his name at the Shinbashi Enbujō in February 2012, and Nakamura Shichinosuke II took his at his stage debut in January 1987. They are the eldest and second sons of Nakamura Kanzaburō XVIII.
Neither the Kabuki Encyclopedia nor the Kabuki Play Guide records a codified repertoire for this house. Nor do the sources gathered state the present status of the name Nakamura Kanzaburō, so this site does not assert it; the origin of the house name Nakamuraya is likewise left unstated until a primary source confirms it.
