NARIKOMAYA — YAGŌ

Narikomaya (Ganjirō line)

なりこまやNarikomayaAlso called: Nakamura Ganjirō familyCrest: I-bishi

Narikomaya is the yagō of the Nakamura Ganjirō family. It is written with the character for 'house' (家), distinguishing it from the Nakamura Shikan family's Narikomaya written with 'shop' (屋) (Kabuki Actor Directory). A house of Kamigata kabuki, its art is the Ganjirō Jūnikyoku, gathering the signature roles of Ganjirō I. The current Ganjirō, the fourth, took the name at the Osaka Shōchikuza in January–February 2015.

According to the Kabuki Actor Directory, Nakamura Ganjirō IV is the eldest son of Sakata Tōjūrō IV; he took the name Nakamura Kanjaku V at the Nakaza in Osaka in January 1995 as Chūbei in Fūinkiri, and became Ganjirō IV at the Osaka Shōchikuza in January–February 2015 as Izaemon in Kuruwa Bunshō. Nakamura Senjaku III, the second son of Tōjūrō IV and Ganjirō's younger brother, took his name in the same month of 1995.

Nakamura Kazutarō I, eldest son of Ganjirō IV, made his stage debut at that 1995 succession production, and in September 2014 succeeded as the seventh head of the Azuma school of Japanese dance under the name Azuma Tokuharu. Nakamura Toranosuke I is the eldest son of Senjaku III (Kabuki Actor Directory).

The house art is the Ganjirō Jūnikyoku. The Kabuki Play Guide records that it selects the signature roles of Ganjirō I, was established around 1921, and that 'Ganjirō' was playfully rewritten to form the name. It centres on the wagoto of Kamigata — Kawashō, Fūinkiri, Kuruwa Bunshō. The origin of the house name is left unstated here until a primary source confirms it.

Crest — I-bishi: The Kabuki Actor Directory gives Nakamura Ganjirō IV's crest as i-bishi; Nakamura Senjaku III's as a fan within a winter sparrow; Nakamura Kazutarō I's as the character 'ichi' within a winter sparrow; Nakamura Toranosuke I's as 'tora' within a winter sparrow, with chō-hanabishi.
